The NFL is just nuts. Every single week, we get games that are unfathomable including huge comebacks.

Week 2 Review

Daniel Jones – Never A Doubt
  • Bengals Go to 0-2 – CIN was my Super Bowl pick, and no team who has gone 0-2 in their first 2 games in Division have ever made the playoffs. QB Joe Burrow does not look right, as he tweaked his calf again. Give BAL credit for grinding out the clock to win the game without letting CIN get the ball in the final 3:28 of the game winning, 27-24.
  • Chiefs D Stepping Up – DE Chris Jones was back, and the D played great limiting JAC 271 total yards and 0 TDs in the 17-9 victory. If the O can come around for KC, then we may have a repeat champ after all.
  • Remember the Titans – Leave it to HC Mike Vrabel again, as he and QB Ryan Tannehill overcame an 11 point deficit early to take control of the game eventually leading to an OT victory, 27-24. A frustrated LAC Coach Brandon Staley addressed the press contending the Chargers do not have a carryover effect from the loss at JAC in the playoffs. Well, the Chargers haven’t held leads in each of their first 2 games.
  • Giants Survive – So, full disclosure, my partner, Action, and I picked the Giants in our $1000 entry Survivor Pool. So, when the Giants came out much like they did on SNF in Week 1 down 20-0 at the half and 28-7 in the 3rd Quarter, I thought we were dead. Well, QB Daniel Jones made it happen with 321 yards passing, 2 TDs and 59 yards rushing and 1 TD to score 31 second half points winning in regulation, 31-28. Incredible.
  • Fail Mary – The Broncos have stumbled out of the gates. With 2 home games to start, they looked to be in good shape, but after losing in Week 1 to the Raiders and leading 21-3 early in the 2nd Quarter, the Broncos collapsed. WAS outscored them 32-3 to take a 35-24 lead in the 4th Quarter. However, DEN got a FG and QB Russell Wilson threw it up at the gun which was tipped twice for the TD. However, the 2 point conversion failed for a WAS winner, 35-33.
  • Steelers Ride D in Win – The Steelers will need to figure out their Offense, but for one night, the D was able to force 4 TOs along with 6 sacks of QB Deshaun Watson adding 2 Defensive TDs on the first offensive series and late in the 4th to get the win, 26-22.

Predictions: Average in Week 2, S/U 3-2, 2-3 ATS, but totals were solid 4-1.

Critical Injuries:

  • Browns – Nick Chubb, RB – Tore multiple knee ligaments on MNF and is out for the year.
  • Giants – Saquon Barkley, RB – An ankle injury looks to have Saquon out for a few weeks.
  • Bengals – Joe Burrow, QB – Questionable with his calf – they play on MNF, so maybe an extra day will get him on the field.
  • Colts – Anthony Richardson, QB – After 2 impressive TD runs, Richardson left the game with a concussion, so he is in the protocol.
  • Chargers – Austin Ekeler, RB – Ekeler did not play in Week 2 and that offense wasn’t the same – he is still Questionable with an ankle injury.
  • Vikings – Oli Udoh, OT – He will miss the Chargers game with a quad injury.
  • Eagles – James Bradberry, CB – Still in the Concussion protocol.
  • 49ers – Brandon Aiyuk, WR – Shoulder injury, DNP on Monday – need to monitor.

Fantasy Football Immediate Adds:

Jerome Ford Is Your Priority Pick Up in Week 3
  • Matthew Stafford, QB, LAR – He’s just 44% owned in CBS leagues, and he is now 3rd in Yards Passing after facing the 49ers D. They get the Bengals on the road, but it seems the former MVP may be alright.
  • Jerome Ford, RB, CLE – Nick Chubb is out for the year, so next up in CLE is Jerome Ford. That line should still help him produce.
  • Jaylen Warren, RB, PIT – Warren has looked more explosive than Najee Harris, although he is terrible in pass protection. He should be rostered in all leagues.
  • Treylon Burks, WR, TEN – Finally!! They used this guy in the passing game, so he may not pop again at CLE, but he did catch a 70 yard reception in this one. Grab and stash guy.

Week 3 Marquee Match Ups

Can Bijan Continue His Ascent in DET?
  • Titans at Browns (-3, 39.5 Total) – Sunday, 9/24 at Noon Central on CBS – This will be a real physical battle in CLE. The Titans want to smashmouth just like the Browns, and I like both D-Lines. The Chubb injury does hurt CLE, but I think Tannehill is not able to make enough plays in this one for TEN. Titans will win this one and Cover +3. Under 39.5, although it was better at 41.5.
  • Falcons at Lions (-3.5, 46.5 Total) – Sunday, 9/24 at Noon Central on FOX – The Lions fell on Sunday, but they are a good team. ATL is living up to the pre-season hype so far, but this will be step up in class. The real battle is the DET D-Line vs. the ATL O-Line in this one. I know I’m probably pushing it too far here, but I like the Falcons in this one – Straight Up and +3.5. Total will go Under 46.5.
  • Chargers at Vikings (PK, 54 Total) – Sunday, 9/24 at Noon Central on Fox – A battle of two 0-2 teams that made the playoffs in 2022, now it’s not impossible to make the playoffs at 0-3, but it’s not likely. So, it’s a very early elimination game of sorts. I would say that the Chargers have played good enough to win both games, but when it comes to late game decisions, HC Staley is terrible. Gun to my head, I’ll pick the Vikings, since the Chargers pass D is awful. Jefferson and Addison should have big games. That total is high, but I’ll still go Over 54.
  • Eagles at Bucs (+5, 46 Total) – Monday, 9/25 at 6:15 PM Central 0n ABC – A surprising battle of 2-0 teams here as the Bucs have been one of the surprises of the early 2023 season. The Eagles have been unimpressive in their 2 wins. So, it will be a prove it game on national TV for both teams. The spread is just too big for me, but the Eagles will win this one with a Bucs cover of +5. Total will go Under 46.

Enjoy Week 3!
