Usually by this time of year, the Favorites start playing better, so games aren’t completely crazy. Well, Week 9 was like Week 1 all over again.

Week 9 Recap

Justin Fields Is On Fire
  • Colts Fire Reich: The Colts completely cratered under pre-season expectations. Once Matt Ryan was benched, I suppose we should have seen this coming. However, after the 26-3 thumping at the hands of the Patriots, Owner Jim Irsay had enough. He fired Frank Reich, and even more unexpected, he hired former Colts’ Center Jeff Saturday who hasn’t coached in the NFL at all. He did however coach the Hebron Christian academy to a 3-7 record in his last coaching attempt (that’s a HS job). Good luck, Colts fans!
  • Commanders On the Block: I did not get this news out last week, as all the pressure on Owner Daniel Snyder finally made him call Uncle. The Washington Commanders are not up for sale, which doesn’t affect this year much, but I would only expect positive things. WAS did blow a 17-7 lead a t home this week as MIN went out to win, 20-17 in the waning seconds to pull to 7-1 on the season.
  • Lions Beat Pack: No, that’s not a misprint, the awful Lions finally got a win, but not how you may have thought. They held GB to only 9 points forcing 3 Aaron Rodgers INTs en route to a 15-9 win. The Packers have now lost 5 straight games, and I honestly think they may turn to Jordan Love soon, if they get to 7 losses this year.
  • Jets, Baby! : Never doubt a Wegs gut call on the Jets, wait, I picked the Bills to roll. Ugh – the Wegs Index picked the Jets, but Wegs didn’t. Well, that much of fired up the troops, as the Jets kinda shutdown the Bills in this one limiting them to just 205 yards passing en route to their 20-17 win. The Jets are now 6-3 and just a half game back of BUF. The Bills are now 0-2 against the Jets and Dolphins, so maybe I need to slow that SB roll on the Bills. QB Josh Allen injury to his elbow is something to monitor, too.
  • Hawks Do It Again: I know it’s been week after week of the same, but for a team that many, including me, who thought SEA would be near the bottom of the league, 6-3 is incredible. The Seahawks ran and passed all over AZ, but more importantly, their D has been really good since their loss at NO.
  • Fields of Dreams: I had to do it, despite the Bears losing yet again, this time at the hands of the Dolphins, QB Justin Fields is on a tear. This time he broke the single game rushing mark for a QB with 178 yards (including a 61 yard TD scamper), and they put up 32 points. Yes, they lost, 35-32, but at least the Bears are fun to watch, as Fields is going nuts.

Predictions Review: S/U 2-2, ATS 0-2-2 – 2 pushes with ATL (who should have won) and TB (who still can’t score this year). Chiefs and Bills let me down.

Wegs Index Through Week 9

Eagles Are The Top Dog Now
  1. Eagles (8-0, 2.50 Index) – A new #1, and maybe it’s about time. The Eagles have been extremely consistent, plus they have a favorable schedule. I’d expect them to have the best record in the NFL this year at this point.
  2. Bills (6-2, 3.83) – The move from RB Moss (not that he did much, but he’s a bigger back) to Hines (another scat back) makes Josh Allen their lead back, especially in short yardage. I think against teams like the Jets who are tough, they will struggle. I still like them, but it’s almost all on Allen now.
  3. Bengals (5-4, 8.67) – Domination of the lowly Panthers may not be a measuring stick, but a ceiling.
  4. Cowboys (6-2, 9.33) – After the Bye, can the Boys get the Offense revved up to match the D?
  5. Ravens (6-3, 10.50) – The Ravens, despite plenty of injuries on Offense, cruised at NO. They have a very easy schedule down the stretch, so watch for inflated numbers.
  6. Chiefs (6-2, 10.83) – The Chiefs lack of run game was apparent on SNF. They are moving up the ranks, but they need to get balanced.
  7. 49ers (4-4, 11.50) – The Bye may help that D to get 100% healthy for a stretch run to catch SEA.
  8. Vikings (7-1, 11.83) – The Vikes keep coming back in the 4th Quarter to win, but against better teams, they won’t be able to do that. Although they may get a Bills team without Allen this week.
  9. Seahawks (6-3, 12.67) – The D is the story here, as I wrote. This is a classic Pete Carroll team – rushing on O, play action and a young D. It’s a winning formula.
  10. Jets (6-3, 13.00) – The Jets played a great game against BUF, but can Wilson play in a big game from behind. I can’t see it.

Waiver Wire For Week 10

Mecole Hardman Is Making It Happen
  • QB Jared Goff (DET) – From now on, always start your QBs against the Bears DST. Goff is decent at home, and people will be open all day.
  • RB Elijah Mitchell (SF) – He is coming off of IR for this week, and even with McCaffery, he has good value now that Jeff Wilson is out of town.
  • WR Mecole Hardman (KC) – Hardman is been utilized in the Red Zone, which has led to 3 straight double digit games in Standard Scoring.
  • DST – Titans (TEN) – The Broncos may have improved slightly off the Bye, but you have to like how well the Titans are playing on D. Holding KC tp 20 points is one thing, but since the Bills game, they are averaging 16 points per game allowed.

Marquee Match Ups in Week 10

Bye: CIN, NYJ, NE, BAL

Can the Vikes Do It At BUF?
  • Vikings at Bills (-5.5, 45.5 Total) – Sunday, 11/13 at 12 Noon Central on FOX – The Bills coming off a loss, sign me up, although Josh Allen’s elbow injury will likely have him miss this week. Enter Case Keenum. He’s ok, a definite downgrade, but this line is moving down to a nice level for BUF. BUF will get healthier on D, which helps even more. BUF to win and Cover -5.5.
  • Seahawks at Bucs (-2.5, 44.5 Total) – Sunday, 11/13 at 8:30 AM Central on NFL Network – The wrong team is favored here. SEA is playing well, and TB is not scoring. This game is in Munich, Germany – which is the first game in Germany since the NFL Europe days. I still think SEA is the team here. Perhaps, TB can make things right, but SEA is going to run downhill. So, SEA to win and Cover +2.5.
  • Cowboys at Packers (+5, 43 Total) – Sunday, 11/13 at 3:25 PM Central on FOX – This is the Packers last stand at Lambeau. Rodgers has to get right. I like the Cowboys prospects rest of season, and they should win this game. So, I’ll split it, DAL wins, but GB covers +5.
  • Chargers at 49ers (-7, 45.5 Total) – Sunday, 11/13 at 7:20 PM Central on NBC – The 49ers should be full throttle after the Bye with a lot of defensive players back and RB Mitchell, but the Chargers should get a little healthier, too. I still like SF to win, but -7 is a lot, so I’ll have LAC +7.

Enjoy Week 10.
