Week 5 shows me that this league is almost completely unpredictable.

Week 5 Review

Maybe Gruden Does Have a Plan
  • Raiders Ready, Bears Not – In London, one team got there a week early, the other arrived on Friday. Well, the Raiders were ready to play on Sunday and rolled out to a 17-0 lead. In the 2nd half, the Bears took the momentum and had the game in hand, until two 4th down mistakes opened the door for the Raiders to go on a 96 yard drive to win the game, 24-21. Ugh.
  • Denver Gets First Win – The Broncos are right at home in LA apparently, as they have now won 2 years straight at the Chargers. The Chargers didn’t look ready to play Sunday falling down 17-0 at the hands of the winless Broncos. In the end, Denver got their win, and limited LA to just 246 total yards in the game en route to the 20-13 win.
  • Packers Beat Down the Boys – In a showdown game in the NFC, the Packers played big boy ball in rushing for 119 yards, but 4 rushing TDs with Aaron Jones. QB Dal Prescott (3 INTs) for Dallas does not look good against quality competition in back to back weeks. Green Bay won, 34-24.
  • Colts Show A Template? – The Chiefs’ offense have been rolling, but on Sunday Night, the Colts took the heart from them in Kansas City by running the ball down their throats all night long (180 yards), while dominating the time of possession 37:15 to 22:45. QB Pat Mahomes was also dinged up a bit, which really limited his mobility. Colts won 19-13.
  • 49ers are For Real – I doubted the 49ers given their competition, but they came out and destroyed CLE. Their first play from scrimmage offensively was an 84 yard TD run, and they never looked back sacking QB Baker Mayfield 4 times and forcing 4 Turnovers in the 28-3 win.

Bye Week: Bears, Raiders, Bills and Colts

Top 5 Teams

  1. Patriots – The top of the heap until further notice, and the schedule makers have given NE a total cake walk. They host the Giants on TNF – another bad team.
  2. 49ers – Off of the CLE beatdown, they are for real. They get a true test at LA against the Rams this week.
  3. Cowboys – Hard to believe the Cowboys are still in the Top 5 after getting throttled at home on Sunday. The TOs by Dak Prescott killed them.
  4. Chiefs – The Chiefs looked mortal once QB Patrick Mahomes got his ankle stepped on. That Chiefs defense needs to improve to stay up here.
  5. Vikings – The Vikes D is legit, but can Kirk Cousins play big in a big game?

Feature Match Ups

Last Week: S/U: 1-3, ATS 1-3, Totals 2-2 – Ouch!

Watson vs. Mahomes – Bring It!!!
  • Texans at Chiefs (-5, Total 55) – Sunday, October 13th at 1 PM Eastern/12 Noon Central on CBS – A huge match up in the AFC which can determine seeding later in the year with 2 of the best young QBs in the NFL – Watson and Mahomes. The Texans were able to protect Watson, and he went off for the huge win. The Chiefs look hurt, and if they can’t protect Mahomes, then his greatness is completely compromised. I like HOU to win S/U and Cover, Over 55.
  • Eagles at Vikings (-3, Total 44) – Sunday, October 13th at 1 PM Eastern/12 Noon Central on FOX – The Vikings defense is impressive, but QB Kirk Cousins is terrible in big games. I don’t think RB Dalvin Cook will be able to run all over Philly, so I like Philly to win S/U and Cover, the Total Under 44.
  • 49ers at Rams (-4, Total 50.5) – Sunday, October 13th at 4:05 PM Eastern/3:05 PM Central on FOX – This line is going to change, as SF is playing great. The Rams defense is getting ripped 2 weeks straight, so hard to go against the 49ers after that MNF performance. I’ll take the Rams to win, but SF to Cover the 4, and the total Over 50.5 (both moving the wrong way from Open).
  • Lions at Packers (-4.5, Total 47) – Monday, October 14th at 8:15 PM Eastern/7:15 PM Central on ESPN – The Pack looked dominant at Dallas, but don’t sleep on this Lions team. The Lions’ defense is playing at a high level, and their ball control attack has been tough. I like the Pack to win S/U, but Lions to Cover the 4.5 and Under the 47.

Enjoy another chapter of the NFL calamity.
