Week 5 was incredible. There were record scoring efforts. Let’s take a look.
Week 5 Performances
- McCaffery Unstoppable – RB Christian McCaffery, CAR, is dominating this season. He is getting maximum touches, and converting at a record rate. 25 touches leading to 237 Yards and 3 TDs including an 84 yard scamper that opened up the game.
- Watson Going Atomic – QB DeShaun Watson, HOU, got the match-up he wanted in ATL, and he took advantage with 426 yards passing, 47 yards rushing and 5 TDs (no INTs or sacks). That effort outscored some teams by himself.
- Fuller Back to Back to Back – WR Will Fuller, HOU, was the recipient of those big TDs by Watson, as he scored TDs of 6, 33 and 44 yards en route to 14 catch, 217 yard day – which has go be a Top 10 performance for a WR all time.
- Mr. Jones and Me – RB Aaron Jones, GB, completely shredded the Cowboys’ Defense with count them 4 TDs and 182 total yards on 26 touches.
- Teddy to Michael – QB Teddy Bridgewater, NO, had not done much in 2 wins, but on Sunday, he unleashed WR Michael Thomas who caught 11 balls for 182 yards and 2 TDs – Bridgewater finished with his best day post injury with 314 yards and 4 TDs.
There were other great performances, but those really stood out.
Week 6 – 4 x 4 (Apologies that last week’s post got wiped with some glitch with my normal NFL post, so no review from last week)
Bye Weeks: Bears, Raiders, Bills and Colts
Waiver Wire Pick Ups (60% or Less Owned)
- Reggie Bonnafon, RB, CAR (2% Owned) – If you own, McCaffery, then you should be rostering this guy. McCaffery is getting a huge workload, and injuries often happen with such a load. Bonnafon has shown his worth with a long TD run Sunday. He’s worth a speculative add, even if you don’t own Christian.
- Chase Edmonds, RB, AZ (8% Owned) – Another handcuff speculation here, but Edmonds looked great on Sunday behind David Johnson – 11 touches for 86 yards and a TD.
- Byron Pringle, WR, KC (0% Owned!?!) – The WR who Coach Reid said he’s about to get a potato chip commercial is the latest KC WR to break out. He went for 6 catches for 103 yards and a TD on 9 targets. Gotta add the kid with Sammy Watkins having a hamstring issue.
- Gerald Everett, TE, LAR (3% Owned) – Everett has seen a ton of targets (19 in the past 2 weeks) as the Rams have been in back to back shootouts. He looks athletic and in that offense can get some scores.
Trade Targets (Buy Low Targets)
- Kerryon Johnson, RB, DET – Maybe not a too low guy, but coming off the bye, sometimes players get forgotten. I like the way the Lions are playing and Johnson should get the ball more and more (plus he is through his bye, which is a bonus).
- Miles Sanders, RB, PHI – He is not the starter in PHI, but I think he is more explosive than Howard, and he is getting run already. I see him taking this job in the next few weeks. Trade for him now.
- DeAndre Hopkins, WR, HOU – He remains a buy low, as he is getting out paced by Will Fuller. Watson is going to look to him against better teams. So, if you can work it out, get him on your team.
- Robert Woods, WR, LAR – Cooper Kupp has been getting all the shine, but Woods is super solid and getting targets. Brandin Cooks is probably going to miss the next game with a concussion – good time to pick up Woods.
Unlikely Starters – Daily Plays in Week 6
- Kyler Murray, QB, AZ (FD $7700) – Maybe you have been starting him, but against the Falcons who just gave up a million yards to Watson – Murray will feast. Get him in your lineup.
- Carlos Hyde, RB, HOU (FD $6000) – The Chiefs can’t stop the run. Now, the Texans are not the Colts upfront, but Hyde should get plenty of run in this one.
- DJ Moore, WR CAR (FD $5700) – The Bucs have been getting lit up in the secondary for the last 2 weeks. I like Moore’s ability to get open, and he should have a nice day at a cheap price. Plus, he’s coming off a 6 catch, 91 yard performance. Note, he is playing in London, so only slates that include that early game.
- Mark Andrews, TE, BAL (FD $6300) – You probably are starting the guy anyway, but the Bengals are just bad. I expect the Ravens to run and pass all over them on Sunday. Andrews should score.
Guys to Sit – Typical Starters With Tough Match Ups
- Carson Wentz, QB, PHI – The Vikings are playing great again on defense. Plus, they will be at home with that damn horn they blow every 5 minutes. Wentz is going to struggle.
- Leonard Fournette, RB, JAC – You will likely have to play this guy, but the Saints are playing incredible defense. I think the Saints will make Minshew beat them. So, Leonard sits for me.
- Aaron Jones, RB, GB – Yeah, he dominated in Week 5, but the Lions will actually stop the run, unlike the Cowboys. Plus, Jones has a history of ups and downs, and I expect a big down this week.
- Ju Ju Smith-Schuster, WR, PIT – Well, I for one, may not have a choice, but who is going to throw to him? They are down to the 3rd string guy in PIT, and the Chargers will definitely try to take Ju Ju away. I’d sit and see what happens.
There you have it. Week 6 is upon us. We are almost at the half way point of the Fantasy Regular season. So, wins are a premium as the bye weeks hit us harder now.
