Here we go, after all the preseason, we finally got some action to watch. Now, every week I’ll review key performances and preview the key match ups for the next week.

Week 1 Review

Kamara Took Over in the 2nd to Beat the Texans

  • Ravens Pummel Dolphins – The Dolphins may be tanking sure, but the Ravens new offense completely dominated Miami from the start of the game. QB Lamar Jackson threw for 5 TDs, and the Ravens put up a staggering 643 yards en route to their 59-10 route. Watch out for the Ravens!
  • Chiefs Outquick and Muscle Jags – The Jags acquired QB Nick Foles to fix their offense, but it didn’t matter to the Chiefs. QB Patrick Mahomes and squad ripped the Jags defense for 40 points (40-26). The Jags showed frustration as LB Myles Jack was tossed for throwing a punch. Unfortunately, the Jags lost Foles to a broken collarbone. The Chiefs looked just as dominant on offense, as in 2018.
  • Cowboys New Look Offense – The new OC Kellen Moore showed what this offense could do, as QB Dak Prescott threw for 405 yards and 4 TDs with no INTs. After a relatively slow start, the Cowboys crushed the Giants 35-17.
  • Patriots Not Playing – The Pats may have picked up WR Antonio Brown prior to Week 1, but they didn’t need him (and his issues that have continued this week regarding sexual assault civil suit). QB Tom Brady beat the Steelers’ defense deep over and over again en route to a 33-3 win on Sunday Night Football.
  • Best Game of the Week – The Saints hosted the Texans on the first Monday Night Football game. It was a good ole’ fashioned shoot out with QB Deshaun Watson showing the world why he is a special player (268 yards passing, 40 yards rushing and 4 total TDs). Yet, the Texans left 37 seconds up 1, and that was too much time for QB Drew Brees who took his team to a FG attempt. K Will Lutz pounded through a 58 yarder as time expired to get the win, 30-28. Incredible!

Key Injuries in Week 1

  • Nick Foles, QB, Jaguars – Broken collarbone on IR designated to return
  • Tyreek Hill, WR, Chiefs – Broken collarbone, but without surgery, not currently on IR
  • Devin Funchess, WR, Colts – Broken collarbone on IR designated to return
  • Chris Lindstrom, OG, Falcons – Broken foot on IR designated to return
  • Derrius Guice, RB, Redskins – Knee injury – cartilage – out indefinitely
  • Jonathan Allen, DE, Redskins – MCL sprain – doubtful to play
  • Eric Weddle, S, Rams – In concussion protocol
  • Johnathan Abram, S, Raiders – Out with Shoulder injury
  • Malik Jackson, DT, Eagles – Foot injury on IR designated to return
  • Tevin Coleman, RB, 49ers – Out with ankle injury
  • Hunter Henry, TE, Chargers – Tibia Plateau Fracture in knee, so he is out indefinitely (again)

Week 2 Key Match Up Previews

Baker Needs to Play Better on MNF

  • Minnesota at Green Bay (-3, Total 44) on Sunday, 9/15 at 1 PM Eastern/12 Noon Central on Fox – Another key match up in the NFC North. The Vikings dominated the Falcons at home in Week 1, while the Packers beat the Bears in a low scoring game. It should be a hotly contested game, and this game goes pretty far in the division so early. I like the Vikings +3 and to win straight up with the total Under 44.
  • Saints at Rams (-2.5, Total 52) on Sunday, 9/15 at 4:25 PM/3:25 PM Central – A rematch of the NFC Championship game where the Saints were jobbed with the no call for pass interference. The Rams won in Carolina but gave up a lot of offense to the Panthers. The Saints won a shoot out at home over the Texans. I’d like to see this game in November, but it should be a great match up this weekend. I like the Saints to win, so take the +2.5 and Over 52.
  • Eagles at Falcons (+1.5, Total 51.5) on Sunday, 9/15 at 8:20 PM Eastern/7:20 PM Central – The Eagles survived a real scare in Week 1 at home, now travel to Atlanta where QB Matt Ryan plays his best. The Falcons were not ready for Week 1 at Minnesota. Maybe they can bounce back. I like the Falcons +1.5 and to win the game, but I like the Under 51.5 in this game.
  • Browns at Jets (+2.5, Total 46) on Monday, 9/16 at 8:15 PM Eastern/7:15 PM Central – Not as exciting as the other match ups, but I do like that the schedule pits the top 2 QBs from the 2018 Draft here in Prime Time. QB Baker Mayfield and the Browns were manhandled by the Titans in Week 1, need a bounce back spot. Meanwhile, the Jets blew a 16-0 lead to the Bills at home. To me, let’s see if the Browns talent can actually play in this one. Tough call here, but I’ll take the Browns to win and cover the -2.5 with the game going Under 46.

Next week I’ll put out the Wegs Index with the first 2 weeks of data.

Enjoy this week’s action.
